What is Advance?

Advance is the 6th-12th grade Student Ministry of Forest Hill Church.  Our mission is to help students "Advance" their faith so they can "Advance" the Kingdom of God.  In other words, we want to make disciples who will make disciples (see Matthew 28:19-20).

Advance is all about the proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples.  There is nothing in this world that is as important as a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Jesus offers us salvation, hope, joy, grace, life, and purpose.  He is the most significant person to ever walk the face of the earth and at some point, we all will have to answer the question "Who is Jesus to you?" (link this question to www.wij2u.com)

We have a program that meets every Sunday night in three different locations where we preach the Gospel, worship Jesus through music, and spend quality time building authentic community with others.  We also encourage all of our students to join a Life Group in order to grow deeper in their faith.  Life Groups exist to equip (Ephesians 4:11-13) students so they can grow in their faith and in their relationships with others.

At Advance, we want to help students recognize where they currently are and point them in the direction they should go.  We use this discipleship target to help them self-identify where they are in their relationship with Christ.

OBSERVER - These are people who are simply “checking out” Jesus/Church/Christianity. They are not sure what it is all about but are willing to explore it.

CONSUMER - These are people who might be regular attenders to a church but they are still exploring the faith. They come and participate but give nothing back.

LINE OF FAITH - All of us will have to answer one question on this side of eternity. “Who is Jesus to you?” If you answer this question the way Peter (the disciple) did, you move from a consumer to a disciple.

DISCIPLE - The word disciple means “learner” or “follower.” In this stage someone has committed their whole life to Jesus. They study His Word, His words, His actions, His character, etc. A disciple’s life is no longer their own, but God’s

PRODUCER - These are people who have grown in their faith enough to start helping other people grow in their faith. Jesus commanded all of us to “make disciples.” If you are helping other people grow in their walk with Christ, you are a producer.
